"FINISH THE RIDE" and "FINISH THE RUN" 2018 FAQ’S
HOW LONG ARE THE "FINISH THE RIDE" AND "FINISH THE RUN" EVENTS?
There are multiple options to choose from in the "Finish The Ride" and "Finish The Run" in Griffith Park event.
IS IT ROUND TRIP?
Yes, all "Finish The Ride" and "Finish The Run" events start and end in the same place.
IS THERE A SHUTTLE SERVICE BACK TO THE START?
No, there is no need for a shuttle service since the event starts and ends in the same location. However, we do have support staff available along the route who can bring you back to the start if unable to finish.
DO I HAVE TO REGISTER BEFORE THE DAY OF THE RIDE?
No. Registration will be available starting at 6am on the day of the event. However, there will be a price increase of $10 if you register on the day of event compared to pre-registration. Price ranges are listed in a later question on the FAQ’s.
ARE KIDS FREE?
No, and any child under the age of 14 is required to participate with a parent or gaurdian.
IS THERE AN AGE LIMIT TO PARTICIPATE IN THE "FINISH THE RIDE" AND "FINISH THE RUN" EVENTS?
Yes, age limits depend on the category. There are listed on the registration site. Any questions or concerns regarding this, please feel free to contact us.
DO I HAVE TO PRE-REGISTER MY CHILD UNDER 10?
Yes, all participants must register prior to event start. Children who are in strollers or other carriers and not actively participating in the event do not need to register.
DO I HAVE TO RIDE/RUN/WALK WITH MY CHILD?
Yes. Children under 14 are required to participate with their parent or legal guardian. Also a parent or legal guardian are required to sign the waiver form for the child who is participating.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO RIDE/RUN/WALK?
The cost of the event depends on which course you choose to take. Prices and registration deadlines are below.
WHERE DOES THE MONEY RAISED BY "FINISH THE RIDE" AND "FINISH THE RUN" GO?
Proceeds will go to benefit Streets Are For Everyone (SAFE), a non-profit 501c3 dedicated to improving street safety and ending hit and run crimes as well as providing free direct aid to victims of traffic collisions and traumatic injury.
HOW DO I GET A “FINISH THE RUN” RUNNING SHIRT OR "FINISH THE RIDE" JERSEY?
“Finish The Ride” tech shirts will be sold for $40 a piece and jerseys will be sold for $60 a piece on the day of the event and for pre-sale on our BikeReg registration site. Jerseys and tech shirts do run small, so we recommend ordering one size up. Sign up to be a fundraiser for SAFE and receive a jersey or tech shirt for free (along with other perks) when you reach the goal of $500!
CAN I CHANGE THE DISTANCE I RIDE/RUN/WALK?
Yes, but if the price for the event is different, an upgrade fee will be required. No refund will be given if you are switching to a shorter/cheaper event.
IF I AM RIDING A TANDEM BIKE, DO I AND MY PARTNER REGISTER AS ONE PERSON OR TWO?
Register as two people as you will both be getting a free t-shirt, goodie bag and both be eligible for the free raffle, etc…
IF I SIGN UP AND CAN’T PARTICIPATE THAT DAY, DO I GET MY MONEY BACK?
No. We do not at this time offer any refund if you can’t participate that day. However, know that the fees for the ride will go to a great cause – supporting Streets Are For Everyone (SAFE), whose mission is to use sensible proven strategies to prevent hit and run crimes and the events leading up to them, as well as providing free direct aid to victims of traffic collisions and traumatic injury.
WHAT KIND OF BIKE SHOULD I USE FOR “FINISH THE RIDE”?
Any bike will do for “Finish The Ride” – road bikes, racing bikes, beach cruisers, hybrids, fixies, BMX bikes, mountain bikes, etc. For the longer rides, it is recommended that you have sufficient gears to be able to climb some long steep hills.
CAN I GET MY BIKE TUNED UP BEFORE THE RIDE?
Yes, there will be free repair and tune up stations available at the ride — before and after. There will also be a bicycle mechanic at a rest stop along the rides that can help with any simple repairs.
WHERE DO I PARK?
Parking will be available in the free lots surrounding Griffith Park for the cyclists. Cyclists please use courtesy and park a distance away and ride your bikes to the start so runners, walkers, families and persons with wheelchairs and handcycles may use the parking lots at the Autry Museum.
SHOULD I BRING MY OWN WATER BOTTLE?
We do recommend that you bring your own water bottle, but free water will be available to all riders, runners, walkers and volunteers at the pit stops and water stations as well as at the end event safety expo.
WHAT KIND OF REFRESHMENT WILL YOU HAVE?
Free snacks, drinks will be available along the routes. There will also be food available at the Autry Cafe near the end Street Safety Expo as well as great food trucks!. A percentage of the cost of any food purchased at the Street Safety Expo will be donated to Streets Are For Everyone (SAFE), so feel free to eat lots!
WHAT WILL BE AT THE STREET SAFETY EXPO?
The Street Safety Expo will have lots of vendor booths focusing on products related to street safety and green living. There will be snacks (if donated by sponsors and supporters), beer, live music,dancing and lots of free samples given out at the vendor booths and a raffle to benefit Streets Are For Everyone (SAFE) and Walk N' Rollers.
ARE NON-REGISTERED PEOPLE ABLE TO COME TO THE END EVENT VENUE?
Yes. Anyone is welcomed to come to the end Street Safety Expo. They will not be eligible for the free beer, but can purchase beer tickets at the merchandise and raffle ticket table.
WHERE DOES THE EVENT START?
The Griffith park event starts at the Autry Museum, Griffith Park (4700 Western Heritage Way, Los Angeles, CA 90027)
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO RIDE/RUN/ROLL?
However long it takes to finish. "Finish The Ride" is not a race, it’s a fun event for all. Speeds will vary from person to person and no one will be left behind on the routes. The riders are fully supported with SAG Support and marshals to guide riders.
WHAT IS THE “FINISH THE RIDE” COURSE LIKE? IS IT ALL BIKE PATH OR DO I HAVE TO RIDE ON CITY STREETS?
Route maps will be available as links on the individual event page as they become available.
ARE THERE ANY HILLS ON THE RIDE?
The 9 Mile and 20 Mile Ride are fairly flat, while the 30 Mile Leg Burn and the Killer Half Century have hills varying in difficulty.
WILL STREETS BE CLOSED FOR “FINISH THE RIDE” AND "FINISH THE RUN"?
No, streets will be open for the event.
IS “FINISH THE RIDE” A RACE?
No, it is not. The longer rides are considered training rides, meaning some people use it as training for other more strenuous rides in the future.
HOW MANY PIT STOPS ARE THERE?
There will be several pit stops and full support along all routes.
WHAT IF I GET TIRED AND CAN’T FINISH?
There will be ride marshals and other event staff with radios and a van available to pick up fatigued or injured riders/runners/walkers and bring them back to the Street Safety Expo where they can rest up or receive any minor first aid.
CAN I WEAR MY MP3 PLAYER OR TALK ON MY CELL PHONE WHILE I RIDE?
No. “Finish the Ride” is focused on safety. It is not considered safe to ride/run/walk while talking on your cell phone or while listening to music. Enjoy the outdoors and environment while you participate.
ARE HELMETS REQUIRED ON “FINISH THE RIDE”?
Yes, helmets will be required for all participating cyclists.
WHAT CAN I DO TO HELP ON “FINISH THE RIDE”?
Finish The Ride is always looking for volunteers for Pre-event help as well as help during the event. Go to www.FinishTheRide.org/volunteers, fill out the form, submit and someone will contact you with details on how you can help.
ARE THE EVENTS OF FTR GRIFFITH PARK TIMED?
Yes, certain events are timed. These include: 5K Run, 10K Run and Half Marathon. All events receive a finishing medal.
ARE DOGS ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE?
Yes, dogs are more than welcome at all events. Bring the whole family!
